Royal Marines Sniper Course
AIM OF COURSE
To train and develop selected NCOs and marines to operate as Unit level snipers
in conventional operations capable of providing long range precision fi re and
advanced fi eldcraft techniques.
OUTLINE SYLLABUS
Advanced marksmanship techniques with the .338 (8.59) L115A3
Stalking and advanced fi eldcraft techniques
Camoufl age and concealment techniques
Static and mobile observation including recognition of foreign weapons, AFV
and aircraft
Static and mobile navigation including the use of aerial photography.
Judging distance
Sniper knowledge
Construction and manning of observation posts and hides, both rural and
urban
Reconnaissance techniques
Counter sniper techniques
ENTRY STANDARDS
By application only
To attend and pass a 1 week selection course, delivered at CTCRM that tests
aptitude for success
At a minimum to be of an above average standard in all basic fi eldcraft and
military skills, capable of achieving a marksman standard in an ACMT with
the in-service rifle
Be physically fi t and audiometrically tested (P2 Fit – iaw Royal Marines
Courses – Physical Fitness Requirements)
20/20 vision (non-corrected) or 6/6 Visual Acuity Standards
Clear of all G1 issues
To be mentally and physically robust, self motivated and capable of operating
within a small man teams
